Legatissimo was denied in the shadows of the post by shock 50/1 outsider Qualify in a thrilling finish to the Investec Oaks at Epsom this afternoon.
The 5/2 favourite looked like she had put the race to bed as kicked for home two furlongs out to put daylight between her and the rest of the field.
However, Qualify stayed on strongly to collar the favourite on the line by a short-head and trainer David Wachman could offer no excuses after the race.
"I'm absolutely delighted with that," said Wachman.
"We've got no excuses. I'm delighted for Colm O'Donoghue (jockey of Qualify) as he deserves more big race success.
"I think we'll drop her back in trip after this to either a mile or a mile and a quarter."
Trainer Luca Cumani was happy with the run of 7/1 shot Lady Of Dubai after the filly finished a further two and a half lengths back in third.
"She's run a really good race," said the trainer.
"Adam (Kirby - jockey) said that they kicked a long way out which wouldn't have suited her and he had to kick as well.
"The second horse is obviously very good and we don't know about the winner - where did that come from? Did she actually jump in at Tattenham Corner? Anyway, that's horse racing and good luck to the winner.
"I'm not sure where she'll go next. It's debatable whether we go back to a mile and a quarter for the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood or whether we go for the Irish Oaks."
