Fraser Auret is keen to push the boundaries with his Group One-winning miler Aide Memoire.

“I really want to try her over 2000 metres – I think we’ll see the best of her then,” he said.

Aide Memoire has returned to the stable following a break after her career best performance to win the Gr.1 Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham.

“She’s in tremendous order and she had a nomination for the Thorndon Mile, but she’s not a hard track horse so we gave her a few weeks off and it’s done her the world of good,” Auret said.

The winner of seven of her 16 starts, Aide Memoire will be taken along slowly while her autumn goals are confirmed.

“We’re certainly not in any rush at all with her and there are so many options to be considered, from fillies and mares’ races to weight-for-age so we’ll sit down and work our way through them all,” Auret said.

By contrast, the immediate future of the dual Group One winner Julinsky Prince has been decided.

“The Haunui Farm Classic at Otaki will definitely his target,” Auret said.

“He needs weight-for-age conditions and the mile. Set weights and penalties aren’t as bad as handicaps for him, but he’s still on 59kg and others get a big pull in the weights.

“He can easily carry 59 or 60kg no trouble, it’s what he has to give away that’s the issue.”

Julinsky Prince finished runner-up to Volkstok'n'barrell in the Haunui Farm WFA Classic last season and he also finished third behind Iamishwara in 2015.
