Filly’s connections taking long term view

Serious Satire’s trip to Sydney is one made with the future very much in mind.

The three-year-old will run at Rosehill in an age group Benchmark Handicap over 1400 metres and victory would see her mission accomplished and she would return home without another run.

“Melbourne in the spring is the goal for her and if she wins on Saturday that will make sure she can get into the good races,” trainer Stephen Marsh said.

“If she runs very well without winning then she’ll probably stay for a similar class race over 1500 metres in another fortnight.

“She’s gone to Sydney rather than Brisbane because it’s so much easier. If she had gone to Queensland we would have had to float her to Sydney to get her back home.”

The winner of two of her five starts, including the Gr.3 Gold Trail Stakes in the spring, Serious Satire was unplaced last month when resuming in the Gr.3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes.

“She ran into a brick wall and she still picked herself up well enough – the run was a lot better than it looked,” Marsh said.

Serious Satire travelled to Sydney on Wednesday evening and, as expected, coped admirably.

“If there was one horse that the trip was never going to worry it was her, she’s got a great temperament,” Marsh said.

“She’s settled in and she hasn’t turned a hair. We can’t fault her at all so we’re very hopeful for Saturday.”
