Three year old BoBo So Cute added the Listed Lisboa Challenge to his already imposing record with another strong over 1400 metres on the turf at Saturday’s twilight race day.

The son of Savabeel was given a perfect ten out of ten ride by Andrew Calder who from his outside gate had the gelding placed fourth on the rail trailing the speed after three hundred metres.

Once in the straight a run presented when the tiring River BoBo dropped off and Calder urged the gelding after the pace maker Achilles Sword (Wayne Smith) who fought on bravely but was no match for the finishing burst of BoBo So Cute. Not A Single Help (Ronnie Stewart) ran on well for third place.

Trainer Alan Tam purchased BoBo SoCute as a weanling in New Zealand with the talented galloper now having won seven races from his eleven starts in Macau, and picking up over $1.5 million HKD for his owner Mr. Chan Sui Wah.

Five of Bo Bo So Cutes’ wins were in succession including a Group 3 victory in the Grand Lisboa Cup on Derby day and an unlucky short head second in the Group 1 Macau Guineas on his record to date.

Andrew Calder has been his regular rider throughout and the New Zealander was full of praise for Bo Bo So Cute after the win labeling him as the best he has ridden in Macau.

“Everything went well again, we got into a great spot and when the run came he showed his brilliant turn of foot again.”

“He is just the perfect horse to ride, the best I’ve ridden here in Macau.”

“He has good gate speed and you can go forward on him and slot into a good spot then he switches off in the run until you ask him for something.” Calder said.

Andrew Calder later made it a double for the evening when he guided Peter Leyshan’s rising ten year old gelding Danpaoshaq to a narrow win over race favorite Yu Long Success (Ryan Curatolo) in the 50 to 20 rated event over 1800 metres.

It was win number nine for Danpaoshaq a son Danasinga who has now picked up close to $2.8 million HKD for his connections.

“We had a nice draw and we got a nice run and he kicked well at the two hundred when I asked him.” Calder said.

Calder is now taking a two week break from racing as he and his wife Natasha jet off to Mexico for the wedding of former jockey turned real estate professional Aaron Spiteri.

“We are off to Las Vegas for a week then down to Tulum which is a beautiful historic site in Mexico for the wedding.”

Andrew Calder has notched up a total of 29 winners for the season and sits in third place on the rider’s standings.
