Statistic Of The Week of French Trotting News - 9th December 2021.
On Sunday, Vincennes will host the second of the qualifying 'B' races, the G2 Prix du Bourbonnais (2850m). The first three to cross the line will automatically gain a place in the G1 Prix d'Amérique (2700m), the G1 Prix de France (2100m) and the G1 Prix de Paris (4150m).
The G2 Prix du Bourbonnais (2850m) is open to four to ten-year-olds but has generally been won by a younger horse, especially in recent years. No horse older than seven-years-old has been victorious in the contest during the last decade. Three five-year-olds have triumphed from the last five renewals including Face Time Bourbon and Délia du Pommereux.
With these statistics in mind, it is easy to rule out any horses older than seven years old for this year's renewal. At time of writing, there is only one five-year-old declared for the contest – the G1 Criterium des 5 Ans (3000m) winner Galius. Champion Face Time Bourbon also fits the likely profile for a victor – at the age of six, he would continue the recent trend for five and six-year-olds triumphing.
