Daily Preview: Best Bet Northam - Nov 17

Macavity can build upon a winning stable debut at Northam on Thursday.

The former Godolphin-trained galloper returned off a generous spell at York 11 days ago where he recorded a soft maiden victory over 1200m.

The win was a long time coming with the gelding having placed in six of his first seven career outings whilst based on the east coast in Sydney.

Contesting by far the easiest assignment of his career to date, Macavity was a cut above first up for Dan Morton, making all for a 1.8 length win.

He will have taken race fitness and confidence from that outing and should now be ready for a class rise in the ATA @ Ascot Xmas Eve-C1 (1300m) at Northam.

The son of Street Cry generally produced his best work whilst racing for Godolphin racing over seven furlongs to a mile.

He should appreciate getting out to 1300m second up.

From an awkward draw, he will likely endeavour to work across and settle handy.

With even luck, he should take holding out.

The gelding rates highly amongst this field on 50 day weight adjusted ratings and furthermore, is open to improvement based on the best he produced for his prior stable.

Four Letter Werd shapes as a main danger.

The gelding showed good improvement on his debut when saluting at this course and distance last month.

Four Letter Werd like Macavity must overcome an awkward draw however even with a tough run in transit, is showing enough promise to suggest he can figure regardless of whether he receives favours or not.

Roth Da Toff disappointed as favourite last start over 1200m at Ascot however it was confirmed post race there were excuses with the gelding found to be lame.

Those willing to forgive Roth Da Toff for that showing could well be rewarded as his first up effort when closing well at Ascot was strong.

For those wishing to go wide in the final event of the day, Sharpbob from an inside with Blinkers first time appeals.

He has placed in five of his six career outings and is seemingly knocking on the door.

Halldora was given time to mature after her three start maiden campaign last autumn.

She hit the ground running with a first up maiden success at this course and distance.

She will be fitter for the run and can improve.

Overall though, it is Macavity who can build upon a strong first up win at York in Thursday’s ATA @ Ascot Xmas Eve-C1 (1300m) at Northam.
