Back in 2009 after the Street Cry mare Sarthemare won at Doomben for her new owners Howard and Judy Blight, Racing and Sports made a timely observation about her future.
We noted that “as a Listed winning daughter of Street Cry and being free of Danehill blood, Sarthemare shapes as a handy broodmare proposition.”
First was her 3YO colt Sesar (Sebring), who was successful in G3 company in May and won the G2 Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick earlier this month.
Sarthemare’s 5YO son Doubt Defying, by Not A Single Doubt, joined him on Sunday when he won the Listed Sale Cup in Victoria.
A $45,000 purchase from the Southern Cross Breeders draft at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, Doubt Defying has now won eight of his 17 starts and almost $400,000 prizemoney for the O’Dea stable.Sarthemare, from the Citidancer mare Queen Liffey, won the Listed Black Opal Stakes in Canberra as a 2YO for her original owners.
Doubt Defying is the 61st stakeswinner for Not A Single Doubt and his fourth this spring joining the 2YO Dubious and 4YO mares From Within and Winter Bride. Not A Single Doubt also had his Group winning son Single Bullet return to winning form with a fast finishing win over 1000m at Randwick.
The John O'Shea-trained filly was just the second runner for Shooting To Win, a son of Northern Meteor. Shooting To Win won G1 Caulfield Guineas in 2014.
Intrepidacious was a $180,000 buy for Randwick Bloodstock Agency and Mystery Downs at this year's Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale. She is out of Courageous Kitty (Fastnet Rock), an unraced daughter of the G1 winner Rostova.
Rostova produced a 2YOwinner of her own in Anaheed (Fastnet Rock) two weeks ago while her 3YO Frankel colt Farooq was runner-up in the G3 Geelong Classic.First season stallions sired the three placegetters with Intrepidacious beating Ready’s Girl (Better Than Ready) and Chia (Rubick).
• Exciting sire Zoustar’s tally of Group winners in his first crop rose to four when the Chris Waller-trained Charge won the G3 Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley. The Qatar Racing owned Charge ( Zoustar x Queen of the Falls by General Nediym) was a $450,000 purchase by David Redvers and Mulcaster Bloodstock at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Zoustar’s first crop of three-year-olds also includes the Group winners Zousain, Lean Mean Machine and Sunlight.Zoustar won the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington as a 3YO and will have multiple runners in the race this coming Saturday.
Zoustar's late sire Northern Meteor also won the Coolmore Stud Stakes, an event with a big record as a stallion-making race.• Sebring brought up a half century of stakes winners when his lightly raced 5YO mare Shoko won the G3 Tesio Stakes at Moonee Valley while progressive filly Beauty made it eight for her sire Smart Missile when she won the Listed William Crockett Stakes.
• Progressive Perth filly Mystery Miss charged home to claim the Listed Belgravia Stakes at Ascot, becoming the seventh stakes winner for her former Arrowfield Stud-based sire Animal Kingdom. The Grant and Alana Williams-trained Mystery Miss (Animal Kingdom x Mystical Miss by More Than Ready) races for her breeder Bob Peters and has now won three of her four career starts.
