Feature Races Fall To Karaka Products

Impressive Savabeel 3YO Sword Of Osman collected his third stakes win with a relentless front-running performance in Monday’s G2 James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes at Te Rapa, leading home an all-Karaka finish.

Bought for $165,000 at the 2017 Premier Sale by Te Akau principal David Ellis, Sword Of Osman emerged as one of the best of his generation with explosive victories in last season’s G1 Sistema Stakes (1200m) and G3 Reid & Harrison Slipper (1200m).

Ridden on Monday by Opie Bosson, Sword Of Osman (Savabeel x Bunyah) led all the way and fought off the determined home-straight challenge of $27,500 Select Sale purchase Qiji Express (Shamexpress) to prevail by a nose.

Last-start G2 winner Madison County (Pins), who cost $36,000 at the Select Sale, charged home to run third. Blue On Black (Camelot), a $90,000 weanling purchase, was fourth.

Bred by Joan Egan and raced by the Te Akau Great Sword Syndicate, Sword Of Osman has now had eight starts for four wins and $256,250 in prize-money.

He is now headed to the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas at Riccarton on November 10. * Karaka graduates ran the quinella in Sunday’s $S1 million Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Kranji with resurgent superstar Debt Collector (Thorn Park) leading the way.

Bought for $30,000 at the 2014 Select Sale and $120,000 at the Ready to Run Sale, Debt Collector was Singapore’s 2016 Horse of the Year after winning eight of his first 12 starts.

He made a triumphant return to form in the Raffles Cup in September and on Sunday he shone brightly again.

Ridden by his regular partner Michael Rodd, the $115,000 Premier Sale purchase Majestic Moments (Darci Brahma) chased bravely down the straight, but Debt Collector scored a comfortable one length win.

Trained by Cliff Brown for owners the Barree Stable, Debt Collector (Thorn park x Prompt Payment) has won 10 of his 21 starts and more than $S2.7 million in prize-money – the equivalent of $NZ2.96 million which is 98 times his Select Sale purchase price and 24 times his price tag at the Ready to Run Sale.

Debt Collector became the second stakes-winning Ready to Run Sale graduate of the weekend following Volks Lightning (Volksraad) in the G3 Sweynesse Stakes at Rotorua on Saturday.

The 2018 Ready to Run Sale will be held at Karaka on November 21 and 22.

Hong Kong Horse of the Year Beauty Generation (Road to Rock), a $60,000 purchase at the 2014 Select Sale at Karaka, produced another world-class performance in Sunday’s G2 Sha Tin Trophy (1600m).

Winning the race for the second time, he carried 60 kilograms and led all the way to beat a top-quality field. With regular rider Zac Purton in the saddle, he won by half a length in a slick time of 1:33.07.

Beauty Generation (Roads To Rock x Stylish Bel) has now had 24 starts for 11 wins, headed by a Group 1 treble in last year’s Hong Kong Mile (1600m), Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) and Champions Mile (1600m).

His Hong Kong earnings have now gone past HK$44 million – the equivalent of $8.48 million, which is more than 141 times his purchase price at the Select Sale.
