Powerful Filly Heading To Karaka Millions

Precocious Karaka graduate Gift Of Power kept her unbeaten record intact when she scored a tough win in the G2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham on Saturday.

Rider Craig Grylls positioned the Power filly in third place before surging along the inside at the top of the straight. She faced a formidable late challenge from fellow Karaka graduate Hashalo (Savabeel) but held on to win by a nose.

Bred by Cambridge Stud’s Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, the filly comes from the first southern hemisphere crop of shuttle stallion Power. She was offered by Cambridge Stud at the 2016 NZB Karaka Premier Sale, where Team Rogerson bought her for $180,000.

The ticket was signed by trainers Graeme and Debbie Rogerson’s granddaughter Bailey. "She liked her and bought her - I thought she paid too much, but she's cheap now,” Rogerson said.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled, she’s a lovely filly,” said Sir Patrick Hogan, who retained a share in the ownership. “Power is doing marvellously well in the northern hemisphere and it’s good to see him going so well here.”

Power has sired 17 winners in his first Northern Hemisphere-bred crop with four of his two-year-olds winning at stakes level including the G3 winning pair Peace Envoy and Pleaseletmewin.

Gift Of Power provided Power with his first Australasian winner when she successfully debuted at Wanganui in September and she then added the Listed Wellesley Stakes at Trentham to her record.

Gift Of Power (Power x Capital Diamond by Lucky Unicorn) has now had three starts for three wins and $93,750 in stakes. Her dam Capital Diamond (Lucky Unicorn) was placed in four stakes events including the G1 NZ 1000 Guineas.

Her second dam Diamond Smile (Zabeel) was placed and is a sister to G1-winning sire Don Eduardo and a half sister to dual G1 winner Tristalove (Sir Tristram), the dam of Viking Ruler (Danehill), Lovetrista (Rock Of Gibraltar), Kempinsky (Danehill) and Diamond Like (Danehill).

Runner-up Hasahalo was bought by owners Go Racing for $110,000 at the 2016 Premier Sale. She also has a full-sister catalogued for the 2017 Premier Sale.
