High Hopes For Wanganui Winners

Promising gelding Twya became the third stakeswinner for his sire Thewayyouare when he recorded his first black type win in the Listed Wanganui Guineas on Saturday.

A last-start maiden winner at Avondale, the Graeme Saunders trained Twya showed determination to fight off all challenges in the run home to win by a long neck.

From the first Southern Hemisphere crop by Kingmambo’s GI winner Thewayyouare, Twya has two wins and a second from four starts.

He is the first stakes-winner from Luxurious Lady, a grand-daughter of the US stakes-winner Grand Luxe from the family of champion sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur.

In the recently released 2013-2014 New Zealand 2YO Free Handicap, TheWayYouAre was represented by three first-crop 2YOs.

His G1 performer Prince Mambo was second on the 2YO Free Handicap and the stakes performers Way In and Don't Change also made the list.

From the family of Australian champion sire Redoute's Choice, TheWayYouAre shuttles to Windsor Park Stud from Coolmore in Ireland.

• TAVISTOCK’s impressive three-year-old filly Avisto made it back-to-back Listed victories when scoring an impressive fresh-up win in the O'Leary's Fillies Stakes at Wanganui on Saturday.

From the first crop by Tavistock, Avisto has now won two races and both have been at Listed level.

Last season when trained by John Sargent and Hayden Allen she won the Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes and went to Roger James after n Sargent moved to Sydney.

Avisto next start is likely to be the Listed Soliloquy Stakes at Ellerslie in three weeks time.

Tavistock, a son of Montjeu, has had three runners in Australia so far this season for two winners and a second placegetter.

They include the unbeaten Diamond Valores (ex Special Diamond, by Zabeel), who has won hjis first two starts at Canterbury and the Peter Moody-trained Mornington winner Imperial Lass (ex Tricia Ann, by Zabeel).

Avisto is raced by the 50-strong Challenge Racehorse Syndicate.
