Australian Derby winner Don Eduardo, famous from his early days as Australasia's record priced yearling, has been pensioned from stud duty at the age of only 14.
Don Eduardo, an AJC Derby winner, has been standing at Haunui Farm in New Zealand but will return to his owner Eduardo Cojuangco's Gooree Park stud in NSW.
"It was decided to retire Don Eduardo and Mr Cojuangco is more than happy for him to return to Gooree Park,” said Haunui Farm’s Mark Chitty.
"Don Eduardo left some very good horses and proved his versatility leaving Group One performing sprinters and stayers.”
Still New Zealand’s highest priced yearling at $NZ3.6 million, Don Eduardo retired to stud in 2003 and stood his first two seasons at Fayette Park Stud before relocating to Haunui Farm in 2005.
Among his 16 stakes performers are Booming, Divine Rebel, Older Than Time and Swift Alliance.
Swift Alliance won five stakes races at Randwick, Rosehill and Flemington and now stands at Akaroa Thoroughbreds in Grafton in NSW by arrangement with Gooree Park.
By Zabeel from the mighty Eight Carat family, Don Eduardo’s impact has already been felt as a broodmare sire.
His daughter Tarlaquena is the dam of G1 performer Kabayan (Haradasun).
