Classy pair late editions to boutique auction.
Group 1-winning pair Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge) and Go Indy Go (Bernardini) are the latest star names added to the Inglis Chairman's Sale as the final catalogue was finalised by the auction house on Monday.
Volpe Veloce announced herself as a true star of the track in New Zealand when she won her first seven starts, including the Eight Carat Classic (Gr 2, 1600m) and Karaka 3YO Mile (RL, 1600m) - and further two at stakes level.
However, her crowning glory came when she landed the 2018 Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m), beating the likes of multiple Group 1-winning mare Melody Belle (Commands).
The mare retired the winner of 12 of her 30 starts, which included seven wins at stakes level and accumulated $639,442 in career prize-money.
The daughter of Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock) is out of Group 3 winner Bardego (Barathea) making her a half-sister to Listed winner Delago Bolt (Delago Brom). She has been catalogued as Lot 87.
Go Indy Go was one of the standout two-year-old's of her generations, winning the SAJC Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) and Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) as a juvenile during a career that spanned 11 starts - all at stakes level – and resulted in two wins and four minor placings.
Her two foals to be offered at public auction to date have sold for $1,500,000 and $700,000.
She is out of three-time winning Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare Elegant Eagle and is therefore a sister to Group 3 winner Essay Raider.
Elegant Eagle herself is a sister to Golden Eagle, who in turn produced 2011 Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Southern Speed (Southern Image).
Further back her third dam Very Droll (Crown Jester) is a three-quarter sister to successful sire Rory's Jester, while she also produced 2001 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Ha Ha (Danehill) and Listed scorer Dry Humour (Danehill).
The pair join the likes of Miss Barley (Fastnet Rock) - the dam of Group 1-winning sprinter Gytrash (Lope De Vega), Group 1-placed mare Happy Hannah (More Than Ready), who will be offered in foal to Zoustar (Northern Meteor) and beautifully bred filly Invictus Salute (Exceed And Excel) as final wildcard entries for the sale.
"This really is one of the best catalogues of race fillies and broodmares ever assembled for a breeding stock sale in the southern hemisphere,'' Inglis' NSW Bloodstock Manager Chris Russell said.
"There are rare gems in the catalogue that simply do not reach the open market very often.
"We have been tremendously well supported by our vendors and have been able to create a spectacular buying opportunity for those looking to begin or expand their broodmare band.''
The finalised catalogue of 90 select lots includes 41 Stakes winners or producers, amongst whom are ten Group 1 winners or producers.
The Chairman's Sale will take the format of a virtual auction with online and telephone bidding, just as the Easter Yearling Sale did, on Friday May 8 online at inglis.com.au.
