Yulong continued to strengthen to their broodmare band, buying Group 1 winner Belle En Rouge (Burgundy) for $800,000. The mare was offered by Te Akau via the Gavelhouse Plus online platform.

The four-year-old daughter of Burgundy (Redoute's Choice) has raced 20 times for five wins and another five placings with her biggest win coming in last year's Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) when trained by Jamie Richards. She added this year's Group 3 Anniversary Handicap (1600m) to her resume under the care of Mark Walker.

Bidding stood at $450,000 with less than a minute remaining, but then developed into a determined two-way battle between Newhaven Park and Yulong.

"We need to keep strengthening our broodmare band, which is critical for our new farm," Yulong Investments' Mr Yuesheng Zhang said.

"She is a Group 1 winner. You don't really see Group 1 winners become available for sale very often.

"We have a Japanese import newly added to our stallion roster – Diatonic, a son of Lord Kanaloa. He was a fantastic racehorse and has beaten a few Group 1 winners.

"He is also an outstanding individual on type, with good bones and conformation. He is from the Mr Prospector bloodline, one of the best in the breeding industry. The whole team like him a lot. We will support him with some high-quality mares, and Belle En Rouge will be one of them."

Yulong purchased Belle En Rouge's Group 1 winning former stablemate Entrieve (Tavistock) for $900,000 via the Gavelhouse Platform last September and bought Baggy Green (Galileo) for $1.75 million via the same platform.
