Tavistock mare proves too strong in the King’s Plate
The Jamie Richards-trained Entriviere (4 m Tavistock - Marcey's Belt by Golan) followed up her last-start win in the Concorde Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) with an ultra impressive win in the King's Plate (Gr 3, 1200m) at Ellerslie on Sunday.
The four-year-old mare jumped smartly from her wide barrier and was placed in midfield by Danielle Johnson. When Johnson asked the daughter of Tavistock (Montjeu) to quicken, she showed a blistering turn of foot to storm past her rivals, eventually beating Bavella (Snitzel) by a comfortable two and a half lengths. Spring Heat (More Than Ready) was another length away in third.
"Just awesome," Richards said.
"It was a lovely ride and she was able to get on the back of Mascarpone in midfield which was probably the winning of the race.
"When she got outside, she had a wicked turn of foot and she really showed that today.
"She is bound for the top drawer, there is no doubt about that.
"It might not be this season as we have spaced her races, but she has a good group of owners that have allowed us to give her time.
"We found her off the trials and we are really thrilled with the way she is going."
Richards was hesitant to label any future plans for the mare but hinted that an Australian sojourn could be on offer.
"Whether she ends up in Australia one day, I'm not sure, but the way she is going you might be able to make use of her handicap over there," he said.
"Everyone has asked what her best distance might be, but I don't think we need to make her go any further at the moment so we might just keep her to 1200m and space her races well."
Bred by Kevin and Kathleen Gray, Entriviere is the only stakes winner and one of four winners out of Marcey's Belt (Golan). Her second dam is Stray (Tale Of The Cat) who produced ten winners including Group 2 winner Adrift (Zabeel) and Karaka 2YO Million (RL, 1200m) winner Xiong Feng (Iffraaj).
Further back this is the same pedigree as three-time Group 1 winner Maldivian (Zabeel).
Entriviere is one of 27 stakes winners for Tavistock (Montjeu), who died following a freak paddock accident at Cambridge Stud last December.
