Manaal gave Tassort a maiden Group 1 win in his first season as a sire when she won Saturday's $1 million ATC Sires' at Randwick.

The Michael Freedman-trained filly carried the Emirates Park colours to victory in the 1400-metre feature.

It was Emirates Park who teamed up with Newgate Farm to stand the son of Brazen Beau, who was raced by Godolphin, for just $11,000.

Tassort raced just twice, winning the Golden Gift on debut before a second placing in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes, after which he was retired due to injury.

Manaal, who was an unlucky fifth in the Golden Slipper, is the result of one of 137 covers for Tassort in his first season and while he served 181 in 2021 he was back down to 132 in 2022.

Good reports from those who bought his stock at last year's yearling sales, the first time they were available, saw him one of Australia's busiest stallions last year, serving 232 mares.

Freedman is not surprisingly a rap for the types Tassort throws, not only physically but mentally.

"She's just got the most beautiful temperament and that's the Tassorts," Freedman said.

"I've got three or four of these and they've just got the most brilliant temperaments, which make our job so much easier."

The ATC Sires' was a good race for first-season sires with Pierata's son Coleman, the runner-up in the Golden Slipper, just a length behind Traffic Warden – a son of Street Boss – in third spot.
