A day after winning the $2 million Inglis Millennium with Learning To Fly, Annabel Neasham spent up some of her winnings on the opening day of the Inglis Classic Sale.

Neasham will train the Written Tycoon colt who topped Day 1 of the 2023 sale after selling for $550,000.

The Warwick Farm trainer teamed with Tony Fung Investments to buy the Berkeley Park Stud youngster, who is the first foal from the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes winner Sylvia's Mother (Snitzel), and Fung's bloodstock agent Sally Williams said they were thrilled to land their 'colt of the sale'.

"He's a lovely physical, by Written Tycoon, a champion stallion who's ever so consistent, out of a fast and very talented Snitzel mare,'' Williams said.

"In our opinion he was the best colt here at the sale so we were happy to pay the money for him because we loved him and really wanted to get him.

"He's a lovely athletic colt, very well balanced, ticks every box really. Above all, he seemed to have a wonderful temperament which is incredibly important with these colts.''

The Written Tycoon colt was one of several high-priced lots on a day that saw $23,616,500 worth of bloodstock change hands at an average of $115,767 with a clearance rate of 81 percent.

Extreme Choice had a colt out of Top Billing sell for $480,000, Lime Country sold a colt by Ocean Park out of Sacred Rhythm for $460,000, which was $40,000 more than the Hong Kong Jockey Club paid for a colt by Toronado.

Inglis Bloodstock chief executive Sebastian Hutch was thrilled with the start to Inglis's first live sale of the year.

"It was a very good day of trade – the second-best start to a Classic Sale ever," Hutch said.

"There were some fantastic results across a variety of vendors.

"There is an incredibly broad buying bench engaged with the sale and with so many nice horses on offer across tomorrow and Tuesday, there are going to be abundant opportunities for those who have missed out today to get involved over the next two days."

The full results from the opening day of the sale are available via the Inglis website with the Classic Sale to recommence at 10am Monday.
