Faulds makes winning debut at Geelong for Team Hawkes
The Spendthrift Farm-based first-season stallion Swear (Redoute’s Choice) sired his first winner as the Team Hawkes-trained Faulds (2 c ex Patricia's Gem by Mineshaft) - who was the first runner for the stallion - made a winning debut over 1100 metres at Geelong on Saturday.
The two-year-old colt showed a good turn of foot to beat Pegasi - who is by Vinery Stud first-season sire Star Turn (Star Witness) by a length and a quarter, while Micro (Medaglia d’Oro) was another nose away in third.
Bred by Spendthrift Australia, Faulds was purchased by his trainers for $80,000 at this year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Widden Stud draft and he is out of three time-winning mare Patricia's Gem (Mineshaft), who was also placed at Grade 1 level.
Patricia's Gem’s four winners are headed by Group 2-placed Mark The Horse (Warrior's Reward).
The colt’s third dam is dual Grade 3 winner Stylish Star (Our Native) - the dam of Listed winner Stately Star (Deputy Minister), who in turn produced Sentimental Value (Diesis).
In 2019, Patricia's Gem foaled a filly by Swear’s barnmate Overshare (I Am Invincible), while this year she produced a brother to Faulds and was covered by shuttler Omaha Beach (War Front).
Swear stood the 2020 season for a fee of $5,500 (inc GST).
