Having landed the Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) in February, the John and Chris Meagher-trained Pippie (5 m Written Tycoon - Coupe Express by Ne Coupez Pas) added a valuable second elite level victory to her CV when taking out the AJ Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) at The Valley on Friday.

The five-year-old mare burst enthusiastically out of the barriers and showed her usual tenacity to beat Trekking (Street Cry) by three-quarters of a length, while Bella Vella (Commands) was another head away in third.

Chris Meagher said the Manikato Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) and VRC Sprint Classic (Gr 1, 1200m) would both be considered for the daughter of Written Tycoon (Iglesia).

“I’ve said it before, it might be a touch arrogant but I don’t care what I run her in, I know she’s going to run enormous,” Meagher said. “She was just on point, did everything right, we couldn’t have been happier, just over the moon.

“She’s a dead set ten-year-old gelding at home but as soon as she bounces out of the machine, she’s a completely different animal.

“To win a race of this calibre is just a huge honour and I’m just wrapped for everyone involved. This was our main target and we’ve pulled it off.

“We know how fast she is and we know how she can sustain that speed. We came here as confident as you can be going into a Group 1 and to pull it off is just amazing.”

A $60,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale buy by her trainer from the draft of her breeder Eureka Stud, Pippie is the only winner out of the six-time winner Coupe Express (Ne Coupez Pas), who was herself purchased by Eureka Stud for $26,000 at an Inglis Mixed Sale in 2015 carrying Pippie in utero.

Her second dam is the winner Gal Express (Success Express) who produced six winners including the Listed-placed Timely Truce (Brief Truce).

Pippie is the only stakes winner in three generations with dual Group 2 winner Merry Ruler (The Carpenter) being out of her fourth dam Merry Maggy (Vain).

Coupe Express has a two-year-old by Defcon (Choisir), who was purchased by Shane Nichols Racing and Hollymount Stud for $70,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling earlier in the year. She missed to Hellbent (I Am Invincible) in 2018 and produced a colt by Eureka Stud's Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo) this season.

Eureka’s Scott McAlpine, said: “She’s just a ripper of a sprinter Pippie and the mother, well she’s turning into a very good buy for us now.

"She’s [Coupe Express] actually booked in to be covered with Written Tycoon next week so hopefully we’ll have a full brother or sister to Pippie on the ground next year.’’

Written Tycoon - who was relocated from Woodside Park Stud to Arrowfield Stud this season - is standing at Hunter Valley Stud for a fee of $77,000 (inc GST).
