Damaged makes light work of rivals at Warwick Farm.
Godolphin unearthed another talented two-year-old in the form of Damaged (2 c Exceed And Excel - Shatters by Lonhro) who showed his class to win the Sky Racing Active Maiden Plate (1100m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
Ridden by visiting British-based jockey Tom Marquand, the colt was last seen finishing second on debut in the Headwater at Vinery 2YO Maiden Handicap (1100m) in December and on Wednesday scored a two and a half length victory over Codebreaker, handing Darley sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill) a quinella in the event.
"He is pretty push-button, which makes life really easy and he has a good temperament," said Marquand, who was celebrating his first winner for Godolphin in Australia.
"He ran a really good race last time out and came back and ran a really good trial here - albeit on soft ground. He has shown the promise that he teased that he had."
The colt is out of three-time winning Lonhro (Octagonal) mare Shatters, who has produced three other winners including Group 3 scorer Shards (Medaglia d'Oro).
Meanwhile, colt's third dam is Listed winner Destruct (Sir Tristram), who is herself a half-sister to Group 1 winner and sire Strategic (Zedative) and Group 2 winning sire Clang (Bellotto).
Further back this is the family of Sweet Embrace (Todman).
In 2019 Shatters foaled a filly by Exceed And Excel's barnmate Astern (Medaglia d'Oro) and has most recently been covered by the young Darley stallion again - in attempt to duplicate the cross that produced Damaged's aforementioned stakes-winning half-brother Shards.
The Exceed And Excel / Lonhro cross has produced three Group 3 winners; Manicure, Resin and Minhaaj.
