Stockwell Thoroughbred's Al Maher sired his 35th stakes winner on Sunday when the Ken Keys-trained Al Passem won Sunday's Kilmore Cup (Listed).

A $55,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale purchase by his trainer from the draft of Swettenham Stud, Al Passem scored a short-head victory over Anthony Freedman's A Shin Rock with the same distance back to Heptagon in third.

Al Passem had not won since July last year and on Sunday jumped well from the barriers to lead before settling down in third on the rails with Manolo Blahniq leading the field along.

Into the straight he ran down the early leaders and held on from A Shin Rock, a Japanese-bred won of Heart's Cry, and the third-placed horse Heptagon. Al Passem is the second foal out of the multiple city winner Ruby Bre.

She has also produced the winning Turffontein gelding Pantera Nera and has a three-year-old by Fiorente but has not been covered for the past 2 seasons. Al Maher stood for a fee of $8,800 (inc GST) this year.
