Early Mail and best exotic plays for Randwick on January 24 plus Blackbook File update.
RANDWICK SATURDAY
RACE 1: (2) SEBRING SUN: After a smart early season trial win he made quite an impression at his debut in October when he missed the start by two lengths then did plenty wrong before going down narrowly to Pierrette in what has proven to be a strong form race over this course and distance. Prepared for his return with another 800m trial at Warwick Farm on January 8 when he cruised easily in the lead and won by more four lengths with plenty in hand under a soft Hugh Bowman ride. Signs are good that he has made considerable improvement since his first start and taking a lead that Bowman has a good opinion of his potential.
RACE 7: (5) THAT’S A GOOD IDEA: You have to respect the choice of Hugh Bowman to stick with this classy sprinter over last start Gold Coast winner Spurtonic. His choice is made with good reason as That’s A Good Idea showed he was close to another win with an excellent last start second to the rising star Ball Of Muscle in the strong Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on January 9 when having just the second run of his current prep. He always improves with racing, boasts an excellent course and distance record and will relish the good summer track conditions if it comes up as firm as last Saturday.
RACE 8 (11) HARRIER JET: Excellent Rosehill win first-up and with better luck he could have won both subsequent starts at that course. He was a certainty beaten second-up over 1400m and then fought out a close finish with Shiraz in a similar event over 1350m on January 3 after being left in front. Meets Shiraz 1kg better from a better draw and has the important addition of blinkers. Will be hard to hold out if ridden with a sit on the leaders.
