Chris Scholtz reviews the trials at Rosehill on March 13.
The third set of Sydney trials in a week. Lacked the class horses of previous weeks but there were still some notable efforts from horses who should prove profitable for followers of our Blackbookers.
FATHERS DELIGHT: Third trial for Goulburn-trained unraced maiden who ran on nicely under a hold. In good stable and likely to be placed to win in the country.
RILLITO: Talented mare showed her class with strong finish from midfield for soft win in her 900m heat. This was her second trial and looks ready to fire fresh as she ahs done in the past.MATERNAL: Stablemate of Rillito was given an easy time but did enough to indicate she is going well.
CHAMPAGNE READY: Liked the way she ran through the line late after being asked to do little back in the field behind Rillito.CADENCIA: Solid win by this Waller-trained Street Cry 2YO filly. This was her first trial and she showed natural talent to lead and run to the line.
BELLA SUCCESS: Stablemate of Cadencia was right there in a bunched finish when three-quarters of a length covered the first four. She was the one under the least pressure.MISS DEMI: Commands filly travelled well in the lead to win her 2YO heat. Good first trial as she responded well when given a squeeze. She beat the Godolphin filly ARGEMON who surged late for second with her rider taking a hold before the line.
GUIPERE: Strong trial from this Godolphin filly behind Miss Demi. Settled last and made ground in fine style late under no pressure.MACHISMO: Uncle Mo colt took command of his second trial from the start and responded well when called on. Second trial and looks well prepared.
MEROVEE: The “big” horse of these trials being by a 2YO by Frankel from the top class mare More Strawberries. This was his third trial and showed the benefit as he was ridden off the pace before charging late from last for impressive win.MISS BALLANTINE: Finished second to her Waller stablemate In Times Of War but this Redoute’s Choice filly worked well within herself and was strongest on the line. Both have already been good winners and can go on with it when they resume.
SPIRIT AND FIRE: The best trial of the session, running the fastest time of the 900m heats and doing it with style. Tracked three wide off the pace, joined in at the 250m and put almost four lengths on them in the run to the line. Has already won two of four starts and more to come.ALL CARISMA: Has raced twice for one placing but the speed this Gerald Ryan 3YO displayed here to lead by six lengths should see him hard to beat in a short course maiden.
