Super Rugby: Brumbies and Rebels ready for Saturday showdowns

Saturday could be the last time the Melbourne Rebels take the field in Super Rugby Pacific as they make the trip to Wellington to face the Hurricanes, while the Brumbies are also in quarter-final action at home to the Highlanders.

Three Australian clubs made it through to the quarter-finals this season, with the Reds also making the cut to set up Friday's showdown with the Chiefs in Hamilton.

At the business end of the season with only knockout rugby from here on in, here's how the Rebels and the Brumbies are shaping up ahead of Saturday's showdowns.

Rebels must leave it all out there

. What: Hurricanes v Rebels
. Where: Sky Stadium, Wellington
. When: 14:35 (AEST), Saturday 8th June 2024
. How to watch: Stan Sports
. Odds: Hurricanes 1.006, Rebels 19.00

The Melbourne Rebels head into Saturday's game knowing it could be their last if they don't pull off a shock victory in Wellington against the Hurricanes.

It's already been confirmed that due to their financial issues, the Rebels will not be allowed to play in Super Rugby Pacific next year.

Having enjoyed their best-ever season in the competition, the news could not have come at a worse time for a side that have been moving in the right direction.

Saturday is a mammoth challenge at Sky Stadium, against a Hurricanes side that finished top of the ladder at the end of the regular season.

Winning all of the last 11 meetings between these sides, the Canes have dominated this fixture and it's easy to see why they are such heavy favourites.

The Rebels are 19.00 to pull off a huge shock in the Kiwi capital, while the visitors are 1.91 with -27.5 in the Line market.

Brumbies can halt Highlanders

. What: Brumbies v Highlanders
. Where: GIO Stadium, Canberra
. When: 19:35 (AEST), Saturday 8th June 2024
. How to watch: Stan Sports
. Odds: Brumbies 1.14, Highlander 5.50

In contrast to the Rebels, it's the Brumbies who must wear the favourite's tag when they host the Highlanders at GIO Stadium on Saturday night.

Having lost six in a row against the Dunedin outfit, the boot has been on the other foot of late, with the Brumbies winning all of their last three games against the Highlanders.

A fourth consecutive win over the Kiwi side would be the Brumbies' longest winning streak in the history of this fixture.

The Brumbies have been flying the flag for the Aussie teams in Super Rugby Pacific this season after finishing in third place on the ladder.

Head coach Stephen Larkham continues to impress in the job at GIO Stadium and it will take something special from the Highlanders to deny the Canberra side a place in the semi-finals.

The Brumbies are available at 1.91 to fall on the right side of the -13.5 on offer in the Line market for this one in the capital.
