Toowoomba racecourse is operated by the Toowoomba Turf Club and is the hub of racing on Queensland’s famous Darling Downs, 130km west of Brisbane.
Toowoomba racecourse is known as Clifford Park and hosts more 45 race meeting each season, the majority held as twilight meetings on Saturdays. Clifford Park racecourse is one of the oldest in Queensland. It was acquired in 1861 and the first meeting was conducted by the Darling Downs Jockey Club in 1862. Toowoomba Turf Club was formed in 1882 and conducted its first meeting that year at Toowoomba racecourse. The first recorded Toowoomba Cup was run in 1919. In 1996 Toowoomba Turf Club became the first race club to stage the first ever night race meeting in Australia.

On September 4, 1996 Toowoomba Turf Club staged the first ever night race meeting in Australia. Clifford Park is historically known as the ‘Home of Twilight Racing’ with the Toowoomba Turf Club continuing to race under lights on most Saturdays throughout the year. The Toowoomba course proper was converted from turf to an all-weather cushion surface in 2010 but reverted to a grass course proper again in 2014. Toowoomba racecourse has a circular and tight turning circumference of 1750 metres and a home straight of 360 metres. Toowoomba racecourse caters for races over distances from 1000m to 2400m with starting chutes for races over 1000m, 1300m and 1600m. Inside barriers are an advantage from most starting points.
