Fell Swoop wins 2015 Testa Rossa Stakes Listed $120,000 at Caulfield (VIC), 1200m.
Canberra-trained Fell Swoop continued building his impressive record, now having raced ten times for eight wins, with a gutsy performance to score here. He began well but was caught three deep outside the leading pair (Thermal Current and It Is Written), and racing a bit keenly due to the steady early tempo (first 600m 36.75). He handled the home turn badly (at his first Caulfield start) was under pressure, was headed at the 100m but he then lifted gamely in the closing stages to grab another good win.
Charlie Boy had a nice run, fourth between runners, looked the winner when he got a split to take a narrow lead at the 100m and then battled on for a good second, finding the winner a bit too good.
Java was seventh, wide with cover before tracking up nicely behind the leading group nearing the home turn. He challenged at the 200m and battled strongly for a very good third at his first run since March.
Ulmann raced in second last place in the 12-horse field to the home turn. He improved nicely between runners on turning for home and then ran on particularly well for a very good first-up (1.3 lengths) fourth.
