Best From The West : Ascot – 20th April 2019

The carnival is winding down and so too is Ascot soon.

Given the set up into a 1000m handicap, happy to make a horse who was heavily backed in a Group 1 the tip on Saturday.

Valour Road has not won since the Karrakatta Plate almost 12 months ago but you have to go back to last outing to find the big effort.

He was so well supported into as short as $10 at one stage from 50s in the Winterbottom Stakes last December. While he didn’t win he was hardly poor beaten under three lengths.

Getting to resume with a 3kg claim and only carrying 57kg, he should be able to lead off this draw and take some running down.

It just looks a lovely race to kick off in, especially with the rail out suiting the front runners.

It might be last race Pikey so the price could be affected late but looking for a bold first up run from Truly Belong in Race 8.

The mare has a top resuming record and gets a superb run if she can use the inside draw. Even midfield on the fence is fine.

Her best old form is winning this including being close up in the Placid Ark and Lee Steere but granted it is older form.

It is not an overly strong 1MW race so we can cheer for a Pike special to end the day.
