The Bendigo Mail - April 1

The Mail heads to Bendigo for the Golden Mile meeting and while the Carnival is over the Darren Weir show is expected to keep on keeping on.

He Or She is a good chance in the Golden Mile Picture: Racing and Sports

Darren Weir looks to have a fairly firm grip on the Golden Mile card's opening event over 1100m with the pick of his two runners, in the opinion of The Melbourne (Bendigo) Mail, Star Stealer.

Star Stealer comes off a plain run after being well backed on Adelaide Cup Day. Not much went right for him there but he had to be marked down as disappointing all the same.

That said, one plain run may set him up for we Victorian punters now. Plain in Adelaide, sure, but he was good in his first two runs this time in with both races returning good overall figures. His first up run said he was in for a big prep and it could be healthy dividends to stick with him through one down run.

For an each way play we will roll on to the main event, the Golden Mile, which is a cracking betting heat with big depth in the chances.

We quite like the chances of He Or She and again we are following the formula of forgiving one bad run.

He Or She did a whole lot of nothing in the Blamey but that was run far too steadily for his liking. His Blamey win 12 months prior came from a furious tempo and he looked terrific winning first up this time in off another strong gallop.

That looks the key to He Or She and a big field for the Golden Mile should set up for him to bounce back to form. Given that he looks a good play at each way odds in a race that he certainly has the class to be winning.
