BLACKBOOKERS & TRIALS

Our Blackbook service provides punters with a great way to keep tabs on horses to follow. Remember you can always click on a horse from the Racing And Sports Database to blackbook it or go straight to our Blackbook section and maintain your stable runners there.

We’ve identified a few here from the last week which we think can make us some money in the near future.

Lucky Lago heads to Melbourne for good races Picture: Racing and Sports
Lucky Lago

Progressive mare who showed sharp improvement in the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes last start when working home strongly to just miss out on the minor placings. Her best piece of form last time in was seen over the mile and she does appear open to further improvement up to 10 furlongs this time in. John O'Shea has indicated her grand final is the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes and we expect her to make the logical steps along the way. She is a very nice mare moving forward and we are more than happy to follow her this preparation.

Gamba

Defied the betting drift at Canterbury on Wednesday when notching up a most impressive victory over the 1200m journey. A victor of five of her six career starts to date this daughter of Elusive Quality has continued to show good improvement with her latest victory achieving a new career peak. Guy Walter has indicated he thinks she can win a race in during the carnival and we are more than willing to back his judgement and stick with her throughout this campaign.

Triallers

Ghibellines - Monday 23 September @ Randwick

The half brother to dual Group 1 winning filly Guelph quickly proved the apple didn't fall far from the tree when proving very impressive taking out his trial in quick time on Monday. Settling nicely in fourth Ghibellines travelled strongly throughout and when pulled into the clear he worked home powerfully recording one of the quickest closing sectionals of the day (33.77). Expected to make his debut in the Listed Breeders Plate he clearly shapes as one of the leading contenders.

Eligible Blackbookers Racing This Weekend

Some of the recent runners that have been Blackbooked by us are engaged this weekend and we think should be included in your punting thoughts.

Moonee Valley Race 6 - 4 San Diego

Was powering late in the Henry Bucks 1400m won by the stable mate Long John and will be using this as his next step to staying races like the Derby potentially. That was the furthest back he has gotten in a race but the colt has already shown he can get a mile with an impressive Caulfield win back in March. Perhaps the biggest worry for him could be barrier 1.

Drago needs to win this to go onto the G1s Picture: Racing and Sports
Rosehill Race 1 - 1 Ecuador

An incredibly progressive 4yo by High Chaparral who Gai appears to be taking her time with. It does not seem like he will be in the Metrop and maybe taken along slowly this Spring with a view to better races in the Autumn and 12 months down the track. He’s a really nice horse in terms of his style and while the short odds aren’t much of play this weekend, we expect him to keep winning and then tackle a better race.

Rosehill Race 6 - 4 Drago

The Golden Rose really was a non-event for him but he was beaten under five lengths. Much more preferable race is the Gloaming and if he is to be considered a Spring Champion/Derby contender, this has to be a winning event. Ironically the only race he has ever won was over the 1800m at this course for 2yos. He may have this race on class alone.

Caulfield Race 8 - 11 Lidari

After a slashing win first up over a good horse who has come to NSW and run well, Lidari tackled some A-Graders in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and was boxing on strongly on the fence. Interesting move to come back in trip but Moody obviously has this and the Toorak in mind for him. He’ll be charging late.

Caulfield Race 8 - 19 Peron

This 4yo mare was excellent when not many horses made ground in the Sheraco Stakes a fortnight back. Was a massive move in the market finishing at 7-2 when she opened about four times that price. Progressed so well during the Winter and the Myer Classic may be the target long term but if she runs, she is a significant hope in the G1.
