Tajaanus needed every yard of the seven furlongs at Sandown to gain a valuable Listed win in the Longines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Stallions Star Stakes.
Richard Hannon's filly was going nowhere with two furlongs to run but on meeting the rising ground, she really found her stride.
The prize looked to be heading to one of Hannon's other fillies, Billesdon Brook, who cruised to the front, but her stamina gave way in the last 50 yards.
On the outside of Tajaanus (8-1) and Jim Crowley, Capomento was also staying on but she was beaten a nose, with a neck back to Billesdon Brook in third.
Crowley said: "Everything went smoothly. We had a nice position and she travelled well.
"She was a little unlucky last time but she's appreciated going up in trip and the slow ground has helped her as well.
"It was tight in the finish but I always felt we'd won and hopefully she keeps improving.
"She needed every yard of that."
Hannon said: "She's very nice. She was a little unlucky at Newmarket. She's always been a lovely filly that carries a bit of condition.
"We decided not to go to Royal Ascot and that has been to our advantage.
"She's got plenty of racing left in her as that was only her third run.
"Races like the Oh So Sharp (Newmarket) later in the season might be on the agenda.
"The Dick Poole at Salisbury and the Prestige at Goodwood are others we could look at."
