UK: Dubawi Gold Wins Celebration Mile

Richard Hannon's Dubawi Gold emerged a cosy winner of the Betfair Celebration Mile at Goodwood on Saturday.

The colt stepped up from his latest effort at Newbury and returned to the level he showed when second to Frankel in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May.

He was ridden with great confidence by Richard Hughes.

Just as Set The Trend looked as if he might claim a surprise Group 2 victory, Dubawi Gold appeared and settled the race in an instant, coasting past the line half a length in front.

Hannon said: "He ran too free at Newbury and didn't settle.

"I enjoyed that - it's what keeps you racing.

"I suppose we might look at the QEII, but he'll probably go for the Prix du Moulin for his next race."

Connections of the Andrew Balding-trained runner-up suggested the Prix Daniel Wildenstein as a potential target.

* REGAL REALM will follow a familiar route to Group One class after winning the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood.

Jeremy Noseda's favourite, who was second in the Princess Margaret last time, was held up several times when attempting to weave through rivals in the hands of Jimmy Fortune.

But the gap came just in time and she shot through to sneak past Rakasa and Questing close home.

Noseda said: "There was an anxious moment or two. They went for a couple of gaps and lost them both, but in fairness, she went all the way to the line.

"We had a few little hiccups with her and missed Royal Ascot, but we have learned that she needed further and it's great to win a Group race.

"We'll now have a look at the Fillies' Mile at Newmarket."
