Old friends will be reunited at the Gold Coast on Saturday when Addictive Habit returns to action.
The Group One winner will be ridden by Michael Cahill when he resumes after a long lay-off in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup.
“We’ll see what happens on Saturday and take it a race at a time, but he will get into whatever races we want to look at.”
Addictive Habit, who won a Listed race on his previous visit to Brisbane, will be making his first appearance for 15 months after being side-lined by a tendon injury.“It will be a tough first-up task over 1400 metres, but he’s proved before that he can do it and I’m very happy with the horse,” Somervell said.
“It’s been a long road back and he was on the walker for five months before we stepped his work up.“He’s had two trials and was a nice third over a 1000 metres at Cambridge in March and then he won an open 1200 at Te Awamutu very impressively.”
Addictive Habit confirmed his readiness for the Queensland winter carnival with a strong hit-out between races at Te Rapa last Saturday.“He had a good exhibition gallop and ran home well over the last 1000 metres, he’s looking good again,” Somervell said.
One of a number of Kiwi raiders who flew to Brisbane on Thursday, Addictive Habit has won 11 races with his career highlight a Group One victory in the 2015 Spring Classic at Hawke’s Bay.
