The Irish National Stud-based Phoenix of Spain (Lope De Vega) sired his first winner on Saturday when the Andrew Balding-trained Spanish Phoenix (2 c ex Freedom March by Oasis Dream) won over five furlongs at Leicester on Saturday. 

Having his second career start, Spanish Phoenix pulled clear of Too Much Trevor (Magna Grecia) in the closing stages to record a six and a half length victory. 

Phoenix of Spain's 2023 fee is advertised at €12,000. He stood his first season at a fee of €15,000 in 2020. 

Trained by Charlie Hills, Phoenix of Spain won the Group 3 Acomb Stakes (7f) as a juvenile and at three defeated Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) in the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas (1m).
