Hightail wins Gosford Guineas. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained three-year-old gelding Hightail took out Friday's Gosford Guineas (Listed, 1200m) at Gosford to become the 31st stakes winner for his Woodside Park Stud-based sire Written Tycoon (Iglesia).

Coming from the back of the 11-runner field, Hightail beat stablemate Battleground (Snitzel) by a short-neck with Splintex (Snitzel) another three quarters of a length back in third.

"The raced panned out beautifully," co-trainer Peter Snowden said.

"They went very quick. He got a nice drag up behind them and pulled out at the right time and just managed to get the stablemate.

"He (Battleground) did a great job too. Hopefully he's got some sort of hope in the maiden on the Gold Coast in a couple of weeks."

Battleground has now raced twice for two placings and having been bought by James Harron Bloodstock for $900,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud will head towards the valuable Magic Millions Maiden (1200m) at the Gold Coast on 11 January.

The winner meanwhile was a $520,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by China Horse Club, Newgate and Winstar from the draft of Woodside Park. He has now won 3 times and placed a further 5 times in his 11 starts to date with his prize money totalling almost $570,000.

Hightail is out of the unraced Falvelon (Alannon) mare La Paris who is a half-sister to stakes winner Ringa Ringa Rosie (Bradbury's Luck). His third dam is the dual Group 2 winner La Caissiere (Luskin Star), the dam of Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Dashing Eagle (Danehill) who produced Group winner Single Bullet (Not A Single Doubt).

Written Tycoon, who stood for a fee of $110,000 (inc GST) this year, has 31 lots catalogued for next month's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. At the 2019 renewal he had 40 lots sell for an average of $292,125 and a top price of $900,000.
